About The Seminar:

Treatment of Cancer and infectious diseases are the most challenging treatments in today’s world. The incidence of these diseases increases day by day and their conventional treatments are insufficient and accompanied by serious side effects. So researchers focused on novel technologies to overcome these diseases and eliminate possible side effects. Light application is one of this novel treatments to deal with cancer and infectious diseases. Especially laser devices have become more promising therapeutic technology because of the coherent, monochromatic and collimated characteristics of its light beam. This talk will focus on therapeutics effect different laser devices on Cancer and infectious diseases. It will give information about the mechanism of Laser-Cell interaction depending on cell types and wavelengths. Furthermore, novel biomaterials as a product of Nanoscience will be mentioned, how to enhance the capacity of therapeutic laser application, eliminate possible side effects and result in complete and faster treatment.

About the Speaker:

Nermin TOPALOĞLU AVŞAR appointed assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering, İzmir Katip Çelebi University, Turkey, in 2014. She obtained her Ph.D. from Institute of Biomedical Engineering, Boğaziçi University. She is currently principal investigator of the Biomedical Optics and Laser Applications Laboratory. The main interest of her research group is Light-Tissue Interaction Mechanisms, Clinical Laser Applications, Photodynamic Therapy and Photobiomodulation. In addition, she focused on the design of different light source and temperature measurement systems. She researches the effect of various light sources with different wavelengths on different cell and tissue types through projects funded by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBİTAK) and University Scientific Research Projects Coordinatorship.
