DEVELOPMENT OF A WEARABLE BALANCE SENSOR THAT PROVIDES REAL-TIME TACTILE BIOFEEDBACK AND PRELIMINARY TEST RESULTS ON PEDIATRIC BRAIN TUMOR PATIENT

About the Seminar:

Biological feedback, which favors motor control in static and dynamic tasks via augmenting motor information for improving balance and performance, is used to assist patients and clinicians during physiotherapy and rehabilitation practices. Lack of postural control and balance has the greatest impact on patients’ mobilization and independent performance during the daily living activities. Although an individual’s “static” balance is acceptable while standing still or performing just one task, “dynamic” balance problems may appear during mobilization or while doing multiple tasks at a time. Therefore, being aware of the real-time dynamic balance of the patient is critical for both the patient and the physiotherapist. A real-time tactile biological feedback mechanism, which is intended to be used during the orthopedic and neuromuscular disease rehabilitation practices with the intention of increasing patient motivation, duration and effectiveness of therapy, was developed and the preliminary effectiveness of the wearable sensor was investigated on pediatric brain tumor patient’s kinematic parameters.
